Video Conversion

Q: What does "This video has not yet been converted to Flash format" mean?

A: Phanfare converts videos to the Flash video format. Doing so reduces the size of large video files and helps avoid player incompatibility problems caused by the numerous video formats available. Videos are converted to Flash after they are uploaded. Depending on the number of users uploading videos at any given time, this process can occur up to several hours after the video is uploaded.

If you try to play a video that has not been converted to Flash format, Phanfare will attempt to play the original file as uploaded by the user. The video may not play for several reasons. The video may extremely large (up to 2024 megabytes) or you might not have a compatible player or set of codecs installed on your computer. Also note that some players attempt to download the entire video file before beginning to play the video. If the video is very large, the download will take a long time, making it appear as if the video will not play.
