Phanfare Sites
As a Premium customer, you get a Phanfare site at yourname.phanfare.com, where you choose the yourname part.
By default, albums are created unpublished to your Phanfare site. You then explicitly publish albums to your site. You can specify that your site be protected by a password so that any viewers will need to enter that password to see your site.
Your Phanfare site has a Drop Box that you can enable. Friends and Family can drop off full size original photos and videos at your drop box.
Phanfare Subsites
Phanfare customers also get an unlimited number of Phanfare Subsites, each one at a URL of the form yourname.phanfare.com/subsitename. You get to choose the subsitename.
A subsite can optionally have a password. Viewers who visit a subsite protected by a password will get access to only that subsite if they enter the password.
Through the use of subsites, you can create groups. For example, you might put all you soccer photos at http://yourname.phanfare.com/soccer and decide to leave that subsite wide open, while still requiring a password to get your primary site.
Album Security
Phanfare has a number of security options for your albums that let you control what your viewers can do with your photos.
In the Security section of the album properties you can turn off the ability for your viewers to download your full-size original photo, order photo merchandise, and see Exif and geographic information.
You can also watermark the images in the album for additional security.
Isolated Invitations
Regardless of whether an album is published, you can send an invitation through the Phanfare tools that permits only access to that one album.
Isolated invites are ideal when you want to invite a person to see a single album while keeping the rest of your collection completely private from that person.
Tracking Visitors
When you use Phanfare's invitation tools to share albums, the clicks are tracked so that visitor reports can contain the email address and possibly the name of the person who clicks through.
Visitors who directly navigate to your Phanfare site or to a Phanfare subsite are not tracked and will be listed as anonymous on the visitor reports.
Durability of our Online Storage
Phanfare stores all your fullsize photos and HD videos at Amazon S3 (http://aws.amazon.com/s3/). Amazon S3, an online storage service owned and run by Amazon.com, provides the highest quality online storage available today. It is enterprise-class storage sold to businesses on a subscription basis. There is nothing better that we know of out there.
Amazon keeps data in multiple data centers. The service is designed to survive the simultaneous loss of data in two different data centers. Hence, every single photos and video you have is in at least two data centers.
Amazon's design goal for durability is to retain 99.9999999999% of the data stored there. Practically speaking, this means that they won't lose a file for millions of years.
At Phanfare, we don't consider ourselves to be the backup of your photos and videos. We consider ourselves to be primary copy.
The central idea behind Phanfare is to enable to you organize your photos and videos online so that you never lose them.
