Q: How much does the application cost?
A: The Photon application is free to download from the app store. Once installed, you will need to create a trial Phanfare account if you don't have one.
Q: Can you take video with the camera?
A: Photon does not yet support iPhone video. We are working on this and hope to have full support within the next few weeks. If you have video that is in a supported video format, you can use your computer to upload it to your Phanfare account at http://www.phanfare.com. Once uploaded and processed by our servers, it will be viewable on your iPhone using Photon.
Q: I have multiple Phanfare accounts. Is it possible to switch between accounts without clearing application's cache?
A: Not at this time. The application only supports caching data from a single account at a time. If you launch Photon and go to settings, you can select "forget this account" and choose to login to your other account. However, by doing so, it empties the application's cache, which means all albums and thumbnails will need to re-download to the phone the next time you login under your first account.
Q: Is there a way to require a sign in or password upon the launch of Photon?
A: No. If you are worried about someone accessing your Phanfare account on the phone and deleting or editing your content without your permission, we suggest putting a password lock on the phone itself.
Q: I don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch. Are you looking to expand the application to include support for other phones like the Blackberry?
A: Currently, we are focused on the iPhone. Other smartphones are on the road map but we are going to start with the iPhone because we think that is the best path to user adoption. The iPhone has more storage capacity, a better UI and the app store, which gives us distribution. We have a lot of improvements we need to make to the iPhone application before we are satisfied with it. As other phones come onto par with the iPhone, we will look at how easy it would be to modify our existing application for them. There is a mobile viewer for other phones so you can view your Phanfare account. You can navigate to http://mobile.phanfare.com on your phone.
Q: I am trying to install or launch Photon but the application is frozen. What should I do?
A:We recommend rebooting your iPhone or iPod Touch after downloading the Phanfare Photon application. To reboot your phone, please hold down the button on the top of the phone until you get the message to move the slider to off to power down. Then, turn phone back on and launch Photon. In addition, if you are planning to take a series of pictures with Photon's built-in camera, we recommend rebooting your device prior to doing so.
Q: I downloaded Photon. Why can't I login?
A:Photon requires that you first register with Phanfare. After downloading Photon, please select "create a new account" and register with us. Once completed, we will send a confirmation email with a link in it to your email of record. Click the link, and you should now be able to launch Photon and login with your email and the password you set.
Q: I am trying to upload pictures to my Phanfare account from my phone but the upload appears to be stuck?
A:If the pictures that currently won't upload were taken with the Photon camera, please navigate to them in your albums in Photon and choose the paper icon with the arrow at bottom and opt to save them to your iPhone camera roll. Once saved, you can delete them from Photon and then reimport them to Photon (by clicking import within Photon) from the camera roll.
If they are pics that were on your camera roll to begin with (and are still there), you can delete them from Photon, exit out, reboot your iPhone, relaunch Photon and try to reimport them from your camera roll. This is best done while on a wi-fi connection.
Q: What I see in Photon regarding my albums or the images in them does not match what I see in the web-browser or desktop client. How do I resync?
A:To resync your application with Phanfare, you can clear the application's cache. To do this, go to the main screen on your iPhone or iPod Touch and select the Settings icon. Then, scroll down to Phanfare and choose the option to clear cache on next launch. Alternatively, you can uninstall and reinstall the application from the app store.
Q: How do I delete an album within Photon?
A: Launch Photon and click albums on the bottom navigational bar. Then find the album you want to delete. Swipe your finger across the name of it until a Delete option appears. Click it and then confirm you want to delete the album.
Q: I can play recent videos added to Phanfare, but I can't play a video that's stored in an album I created in 2007. Why?
A:Only videos uploaded after July 20, 2008 are converted to a format that can be played on the iPhone and iPod Touch. At this time, we are not converting older videos, so if you want to play them on your device, you'll need to re-upload them to Phanfare.
