Installation troubleshooting

If you are having trouble installing the Phanfare desktop application for Windows or a Mac, please first review Phanfare's system requirements to make sure that your operating system, connection type, and computer setup meet those required to install and run Phanfare.
If your system meets all requirements, but you are still having trouble installing or launching Phanfare's desktop application, review the tips below to see if they solve the issue. If not, you can contact support (mailto:support@phanfare.com). Please specify what operating system you are using, when in the installation process you are encountering the error, and the full text of any error messages you see.
Installation Troubleshooting
Windows
- If upon downloading the application, you encounter any error that you see is related to downloading .NET 3.5, you may first want to download .NET 3.5 directly from Microsoft and then come back and try downloading and installing Phanfare again. When finished, come back and try to download Phanfare again from this page: http://beta.phanfare.com/download.aspx
- We recommend googling the text of any error you receive on download or installation to see if there are already tips out there on how to resolve.
- If you install Phanfare and have the icon available on your desktop or in your Start menu but it won't launch or if it launches but either can't find a connection or always says "disconnected", we recommend temporarily turning off any firewall, internet security applications (Norton, ZoneAlarm, CA Security suite, McAfee), parental filtering applications, etc., to see if the application will launch and connect then. If so, you can try to whitelist or make an exception in the program to allow Phanfare in the future. If accessing Phanfare at work, it may be that a corporate firewall is blocking the connection.
- Phanfare does not support authenticated proxies currently. If connecting via a proxy, you can input the anonymous proxy information in the client by holding down the control and shift key when launching Phanfare until a configuration box appears. There is a box for proxy information.
Mac
- Phanfare is shipped as a DMG file that can be mounted on your Mac as a virtual disk. To install Phanfare, copy Phanfare Photo from the mounted virtual disk to your Applications directory. You should also put a shortcut for Phanfare on your dock so you can quickly access it. To add Phanfare do your dock, drag the Phanfare Photo icon from your Applications directory to your Dock. Don't drag the icon from the DMG to your dock, or you will be creating a shortcut to the DMG file, which will not be mounted on reboot.
- If Phanfare does nothing when you doubleclick it to launch, make sure that you have at least Mac 10.4 (Tiger) operating system. Phanfare will not work on prior versions.
