Importing from Picasa Desktop

From Doc

Phanfare lets you import images directly from Google's Picasa desktop application by installing a plug-in within Picasa. Download the plug-in on the Phanfare Apps & Extras (http://www.phanfare.com/apps.aspx#Picasa) page. The plug-in requires that you've already installed Picasa 2.7 or later on your Windows PC.

Installation

When you click the Download Now link on the Apps & Extras (http://www.phanfare.com/apps.aspx#Picasa) page, the browser will ask you if it should "Launch Picasa and import buttons?" Click Yes. Picasa will launch and the Phanfare button will appear in the list of Available Buttons. Click Add to add the button to the toolbar at the bottom of the application.

Limitations

  • You can only upload photos. Videos are not supported.
  • You can only upload 100 megabytes of photos at a time. To maximize the number of files you can fit in 100 megabytes, change the Upload Type to Optimized. This reduces large images to 1600 pixels on their longest axis. For instance, if your original image is 4000x3000 pixels, the optimized image will be 1600x1200 pixels. Since the actual size of the optimized files can't be known until after the images are exported, the plug-in needs to estimate their size. The plug-in assumes that each optimized file will be one megabyte.
  • The plug-in exports the original version of the photo instead of the modified version unless you save your edits in Picasa. (Picasa automatically backs up your originals so you can always revert to them later.)

Removing the button

To take the button off of the Picasa toolbar, go to Tools --> Configure Buttons. Select the Phanfare button and click Remove. Then choose OK.

To permanently delete the button, close Picasa. Then, launch Windows Explorer and go to the following folder:

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Picasa2\buttons

Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Google\Picasa2\buttons

where username is your Windows username. This is a hidden folder. To view the folder, either type the full path into Windows Explorer or select Tools --> Folder Options --> View and in Advanced settings, choose 'Show hidden files and folders.'

Delete the PicasaPlugin-pbz file.
